December 5, 2009: LG’s “Give it a Ponder” a Marketing Success:
I was recently introduced to LG’s new campaign “Give it Ponder” this campaign addresses the increasing issues of risky behavior of teens and tweens with mobile phone use. Not only is this campaign necessary since it addresses many issues that have been increasing in problems for years. But, it also is a great way for LG to show parents that they too are concerned about the way that teens use their services. There are multiple ads and videos that are a part of this campaign and I find each of them effective and necessary. LG covers all aspects and areas of misuse and effectively communicate to teens to think before they act.
Overall I find this campaign a creative and necessary one. I think it’s something that needs to be more readily addressed by other companies as well. I would be confident enough to say this campaign is a success, not only are they witty and funny – but they also effectively get their point across. “It’s hot, oven mitt hot!”
November 16, 2009: Facebook: Becoming Un-Cool?
I recently read an article that Facebook is becoming “Un-Cool” for people ages 18-24. While this may shock some at first and make you think “do they know what they’re talking about” as I read the article I found myself thinking, “They’re pretty much dead on”.
Due to the fact that my demographic was among the first on facebook, I would have to agree that it has somewhat lost it’s appeal. It seems as though every mom, aunt, teacher, middle school student and middle-aged person you’ve ever met is on there and is requesting to be your friend. It’s not necessarily a bad thing that so many are utilizing facebook as a networking tool. I can just see where this new trend can be unappealing to people my age. I think that something else that should be taken into consideration is the fact that people in the 18-24 demographic have been on facebook much longer than many of the new converts and at times it can feel “repetitive” or “pointless” to check your facebook is you’ve had it for 4 years.
All in all I don’t think the good people at facebook need to fret, but it’s definitely a trend they may want to take into consideration. (for the entire adweek article click here)
November 8, 2009: Comcast embraces the power of social networking to further customer service:
With the continual development and changing power and influence of social media in all aspects of the business world it’s hard to say what the best way for companies to embrace this new technology is. Recently a friend of mine was experiencing a frustrating situation with Comcast and their customer service. After getting the run around from a comcast representative he proceeded to post something to his blog about his frustrations as well as tweet about his negative experience. (Click here to read his entire entry)
Within minutes of his post and tweet a Comcast representative contacted him via Twitter and completely turned the entire situation around and solved his issue same day. After such a great experience he proceeded to post and tweet about his experience again (Click here to read his entire entry)
I find comcast’s efforts impressive and think it’s definitely a step in the right direction to aid customers. I applaud you comcast for utilizing social networking so effectively within your corporation.
October 24, 2009:
In today’s smartbrief updates I read an article about how employers need to utilize social networks, especially twitter to appeal to, recruit and find good hireable talent. Sometimes I’m surprised when I read these kinds of articles because oftentimes I don’t know many people that use Twitter as a way to find employment and possible career paths.
Some points they made, that I do think are worth sharing are the following:
- Use Twitter to audit your brand. What are people saying about your organization?
- Twitter is a good way to improve the candidate experience.
- Show people why your organization is a great place to work.
- Since Twitter is an informal place, you can put more fun personal stuff on there (about your softball team, orientation program, RT new hires who tweet about their new job. )
- Use it to tell your story.
All in all I believe that many companies do need to seize opportunities available to them on Social Networking sites to advertise their company, opportunities to work with them and to find new employees.
October 12, 2009:
In a recently published article I was reading about how 54% of companies have banned social networking during operating company hours. I found this development to be very interesting but I honestly can’t say that I’m surprised either.
While many businesses are desiring to get their face out their in the social networking world there is obviously a great deal of hesitancy still in the world of business as to how to use social networking effectively, what it can do to improve your clientele, etc. While, some may consider the choice to block employees from social networks wise, I find it ironic that employers would so hastily shutdown a great resource for PR and Marketing.
I am a firm believer that there are many people out there in the working world of America that no matter what you do will find ways to waste company time. So, why not keep helpful tools available to employees to help further your company’s cause. All in all I believe that corporate social networking is beginning to be a more crucial step towards success in the future. Traditional advertising is no longer working and companies need to step up to the plate and realize what possibilities lie ahead of them.
Enjoy this little video I recently viewed about social networking.
